What is The Triple Vagal Method

The Triple Vagal Method™ (TVM) is a somatic healing modality designed to support trauma recovery and nervous system regulation by focusing on the vagus nerve, a critical component of the autonomic nervous system. The vagus nerve regulates various body functions, including heart rate, digestion, and the stress response. This approach integrates principles from Polyvagal Theory, emphasizing the body’s ability to self-heal through targeted stimulation of the vagus nerve and the facia.

How It Works

TVM combines manual stimulation of the vagus nerve and the facia with gentle pressure on specific body points to facilitate trauma release. This process helps recalibrate the nervous system by:

  • Releasing oxytocin: Promoting relaxation and reducing stress. The oxytocin is also an important facilitator of healing trauma.
  • Increasing vagal tone: Enhancing the nervous system’s ability to transition fluidly between states of arousal and calm. Increased access to the calm, relaxed states of the nervous system.
  • Completing trauma cycles: Allowing the body to resolve stored stress and trauma by completing them now in a safe, calm setting, with the support of oxytocin and the facilitator

What to Expect in Sessions

Sessions typically involve light physical touch that both induce production of oxytocin and light triggering of unresolved trauma, can be frozen states or active states. There is guided support to encourage the release of trapped emotional and physical trauma. The setting is very calm and relaxed and the aim is to keep any activation, triggers, within a comfotable level so it does not becomes overwhelming, as healing takes place when we can relax.

Clients remain fully clothed during treatments and may experience various physical and emotional releases, such as shaking, crying, or feelings of deep relaxation.

The goal is to create a baseline of safety and resilience, enabling clients to self-regulate more effectively over time when they are on their own out in the world living their lifes.

Benefits

TVM is used to address a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms.
  • Chronic pain and fatigue.
  • Addictive behaviors and emotional dysregulation.
  • Physical ailments like digestive issues or autoimmune responses.
  • Rebuilding a sense of safety and emotional connection.

The method is particularly noted for its rapid resultes compared to other methods. It focuses on the body. There is less focus on verbal processing, even though it is also a part of the process. But it does focus more directly on stored trauma within the body.
